Being a dental professional is a very long, stressful, but rewarding journey. I wouldn't say the journey itself is rewarding but once you have that piece of paper in hand and work in your dream career THAT is rewarding. I became a dental assistant in 2005 and I felt that was easy peezy compared to dental hygiene. I took dental hygiene shortly after and than restorative dental hygiene. School is TOUGH, stressful and when you need to study for the board exam that's also stressful! I tell my students in my FULL Board Exam Prep Course that they need to work even harder now to study, and study some more, so they can pass the board exam. After the board exam they can finally rest, relax and celebrate. Even before you know you passed, I think after you take the exam you should go out and celebrate! Celebrate the fact you graduated from school, and spent countless hours studying! You haven't had a life for several years am I right?! I know I am :). NOW YOU PASSED! Woohoo you passed the board exam! This is what you should do: Buy Yourself Something Nice I know you are in debt, I know you have student loans but school was TOUGH! You worked so hard, many sleepless nights, many stay-in-study-sessions when your friends were out and about, many family gatherings you may have missed...so go out and buy something nice! When I graduated dental hygiene school I bought myself an expensive purse, yup! It was about $300 but I still have it today and when I use it, I remind myself of the long journey I had in order to graduate. I love the dental profession and wouldn't have it any other way. Even when I graduated from dental assisting - I bought myself a ring :). Restorative hygiene...hmm what did I buy myself? You know what, I don't think anything! We recently bought a house so I think I was just happy to finally enjoy our new house and new puppy haha. Take A Vacation When you start officially working, you will be working very hard. Very hard. Anytime you learn a new skill, working a full day is exhausting. Take the time to rest now and enjoy yourself! I know you are in debt but you can start paying that off when you start working! I was able to pay off $45,000 in loans 8 months after graduating. I was dedicated but I also took a vacation first :). Prepare Your Resume Ok now down to a little business. Make sure to prepare your resume! Send it to a few people to edit and proofread. Your resume needs to be amazing and fantastic. There will be other people applying for your so you need to stand out.
