The American Academy of Periodontology Classifications are created to help dental hygienists diagnose and treat periodontitis. These guidelines should be followed so we are all consistent in our client charting. WE NEED --Up to date radiographs, and charting STAGING --Determine CAL (pockets and recession combined) and bone loss from radiographs GRADING --Does the client smoke? Do they have diabetes (uncontrolled)?, What is their percentage of bone loss? Example of a statement: Stage I, < 15% localized horizontal bone loss (teeth 17,36), Grade B (smokes 3 cigarettes a day, sometimes 5). Watch video below for templates and full details!
