I hate to be the one to tell you that as you get older things change, but they do. In my early twenties I could easily sleep in until noon if I had the chance and I often did! As you "grow up", start working full time and have other responsibilities, sleeping until noon is not an option. I always felt sorry for my mother when she would wake up at 6am on weekends because she "was used to it". I am now one of those people! I find myself waking up earlier in the morning on weekends at the same time I wake up during the week. And you know what? I feel pretty rested! Are you a morning person? Learn a few simple steps to become one and for good this time :).
1. Set a routine - Do you want to wake up an hour before you normally do before work, eat breakfast and enjoy a coffee or tea before you leave? OR do you prefer to wake up half an hour before you have to leave in order to quickly shower, get dressed and run out of there? Either way - set a routine! Figure out what you want to do and set that alarm. Get up as soon as your alarm goes off. It will be hard at first but over time your body gets used to it. 2, Get ready the night before - Set out your clothes, the make up you want to put on in the morning, your purse and everything by the door, your coffee/tea cup on the counter...you get the idea. Set out whatever it is you need for that morning. This will save you time since you don't have to look for everything in the morning. 3. Get to bed earlier at night - If you want to wake up earlier you need to get to sleep earlier. If you're like me, it takes you about 20 minutes to fall asleep and you need to get to bed even earlier to account for that 20 minutes. If you want to get to sleep by 10pm - start putting your pj's on, brush your teeth (and don't forget to floss!), read a book, or whatever it takes to relax at around 9pm so you are ready to go by 10pm! 4. Keep a note pad by your bed - Do you often think about everything you have to do the next day as you are falling asleep? Bad idea! This will keep you awake and you should know the earlier you get to bed and fall asleep means the easier it will be for you to wake up in the morning. Keep a note pad and pen by your bed and before you turn off the lights you can write down everything you want to do tomorrow. Then...let it go! ZZZZzzzz.... A few simple steps will get you into being a morning person. I love being a morning person! I feel I get more done in a day because I wake up at an earlier time. On weekends I wake up at 7am and do whatever I need to do before 10am and then I feel I can enjoy the rest of the day. Owning my own tutoring business, online business coaching, working as a dental hygienist, going to school for restorative hygiene, WOW I am busy! BUT being a morning person still helps me find time to relax :). Have any other ideas? Comment below and share them with us!
