Dental Professional to Medical Transcription?

If you love working in a dental office but are looking for something else to supplement your income or something that allows you to stay at home then medical transcription could be for you.  Programs provide the theoretical knowledge and practical skills to work as a medical transcriber in hospitals, medical clinics, private practice specialties and community health agencies. Students study medical terminology, practise transcribing complex medical reports and learn medical office procedures.  


Dental professionals love medical and dental, and being a medical transcriptionist lets you utilize those skills while getting paid for it!  Best part is you can work from home and take on as many or a little as you want.  Often after you graduate from a program (most are done online) you are signed on with a company that calls/emails you with job opportunities.  There are several from what I'm told and hospitals seem to need you the most!  Dental terminology is a separate course you can pay for but if you have that knowledge you 'may' not need to take it.  Having dental terminology knowledge allows you to get paid more as well and have other opportunites.


I know a few hygienists who work twice a week and medical transcription at home on weekends. You could be starting your career in the dental office or nearing the end, and medical transcription will give you the flexibility we all seem to want these days.

• Each course is approximately $400 per course and 6-10 (on average) are needed to get your certificate.

Sounds pretty easy doesn't it?  Anyone can do it!  Browse colleges in your area and see what they have to offer.  Many offer an online program you can complete in less then a year.  Wages depend on how many courses you take and how many hours you are available to work.
